We take seatbelts, airbag and ejector seats for granted but in the early days of the jet age the effects of high-speed travel where unknown especially when you had to make a quick exit.

One man made it his mission to find a way to protect jet crew and in the process made travel for every one a lot safer but he didn't use crash test dummies, he used himself, the original human crash test dummy.
